S197 Ford Mustang Wheels

Twenty years of Coyotes, superchargers, Boss revivals, and GT500s. Every build starts with the right wheel. The 2005-2014 Mustang platform has a unified bolt pattern, a 70.6mm hub bore, and brake packages that most wheel brands treat as an afterthought. Project 6GR was built around this chassis from day one. Every offset, every width, and every clearance spec is developed for the S197, not adapted from a catalog.

Find Your S197 Fitment

The GT, GT500, and Boss 302 all share the same 5×114.3 bolt pattern and 70.6mm center bore. Project 6GR’s confirmed fitments run across every S197 variant without modification. The three cards below reflect different factory brake and suspension packages. The fitment data on this page covers all of them.

Factory Specs

S197 Mustang OEM Fitment

The factory OEM sizes below are your baseline. Project 6GR fitments are verified against every S197 configuration listed: GT, GT500, and Boss 302, with confirmed clearance on standard and Brembo-equipped applications. The GT500 and Boss 302 both leave the factory with larger-diameter wheels than the GT; the P6GR fitment recommendation closes that gap and steps past it.

GT350

Custom Forged, Built for the Voodoo

The 2011-2013 Shelby GT350 runs a different fitment profile than the rest of the S197 family. Getting it right means a custom build — engineered to your exact size, offset, and finish specification.

Setup Guide

Staggered or Square: Which Setup Is Right for Your S197?

The S197’s live rear axle responds differently to wheel geometry than the independent rear suspension on the S550 and S650. That changes the calculus on this decision slightly.

Staggered Setup

A wider rear wheel,. typically 19×11 or 20×11 paired with a 19×10 or 20×10 front, gives the S197 a stance that fills the factory arches properly and puts more rubber behind the rear axle for street traction. On a high-power GT500 or a built Coyote, the extra rear contact patch is a tangible performance benefit. The visual proportions are right for this body, and it is the setup most S197 owners with street-focused builds choose.

Staggered note: Staggered setups do not allow front-to-rear tire rotation.

Square Setup

Running 19×10 or 20×10 on all four corners enables full tire rotation, which matters on track days and high-mileage street builds where even tire wear extends the life of a performance tire set. Square is also the correct call for Boss 302 owners who spend time at road courses; it produces more neutral handling balance under lateral load and pairs cleanly with coilover setups.

Diameter Guide

19" or 20": The Right Call for Your Build

Both diameters are fully supported on the S197 platform. The decision comes down to how the car is used, not which one looks better.

19" Fitment

A 19-inch wheel pairs with a taller sidewall tire, which translates to more compliance over track surfaces, more grip in aggressive cornering, and a more forgiving ride on imperfect pavement. For GT500 owners running the car hard, Boss 302 owners doing track days, and any build that spends time on a road course, 19 inches is the right starting point. The added sidewall height is structural insurance on a car built to corner.

20" Fitment

Twenty inches fills the S197 arch differently. The lower-profile tire tightens the visual gap between the lip and the fender, and on a clean street build or a show car, that proportion reads as intentional. Daily street drivers who prioritize stance and visual weight over outright track performance will be better served by the 20-inch fitment.

Verified Suspension

S197 Mustang Lowering Springs and Wheel Fitment

Project 6GR wheels are engineered to run clean on lowered S197 builds. The 5×114.3 bolt pattern, 70.6mm center bore, and offset specs do not change with suspension height. What changes is tire clearance at full compression and your alignment, both of which are manageable with the right setup.

Drops up to 1.25″ are straightforward. Push past that and camber correction becomes necessary. A proper alignment is non-negotiable after any spring swap.

Brand Best For Typical Drop Notes
Steeda Street / Daily 0.75" to 1.125" F / 0.75" to 1.0" R Sport Progressive, MagneRide, Linear, and Dual Rate options. Widely regarded as the best balance of ride quality and handling in the S197 community.
Eibach Pro-Kit Street / Daily ~1.0" Mild drop with comfort-focused spring rate. OEM-plus handling without sacrificing daily drivability.
Eibach Sportline Stance / Aggressive ~1.5"+ Most aggressive drop in the Eibach lineup. Delivers a pronounced stance. Confirm driveway clearance before installing.
Ford Performance Street / OEM+ ~1.0" Street and Track kits, plus MagneRide-specific options. Engineered to work with factory dampers and sway bars. Warranty-conscious choice.
Roush Performance Street / Daily ~1.0" OEM-like refinement with a mild drop. Comfortable ride, clean stance, suited to street-focused builds.
Whiteline Track / Road Course ~1.0" Linear-rate springs focused on handling precision and center-of-gravity reduction. Common on road course builds.
BMR Suspension Track / Drag 0.8" to 1.5" Performance, Handling, and Drag versions available with MagneRide-compatible options. Broadest range of spring rates for S197-specific applications.
Eibach Drag Launch Drag Varies Purpose-built for weight transfer and launch traction. Not a street spring. Designed specifically for strip use.
ST Suspension Street / Autocross Varies German-engineered, firm handling character. Common on aggressive street and autocross setups.
Vogtland Street / Daily ~1.0" Progressive-rate German springs. Underrated in the S197 community. Excellent ride quality with a sport-focused drop.
Pedders Street / Daily Varies SportsRyder lowering springs and full handling kits. Australian brand with a strong reputation for balanced street performance.
SR Performance Budget / Stance ~1.0" Entry-level option. Good stance at a lower price point. Ride quality is less refined than premium brands.
Megan Racing Budget / Stance 1.0" to 1.2" Budget-oriented with a stiffer ride. Appearance-focused builds on a limited budget.

Project 6GR's fitment program started with the Mustang platform — S197 included. Every offset, width, and clearance spec is developed for these cars specifically, not pulled from a universal catalog and hoped into place.

Lifetime Structural Warranty

Every wheel carries a lifetime structural defect warranty. The finish is covered for one year. Run Project 6GR wheels with full confidence in any driving situation on and off the track.

TPMS Ready. OEM Caps Accepted.

Factory TPMS sensors install directly into every Project 6GR wheel without adapters. OEM Ford center caps fit as-is. No extra hardware, no hacks. Get a true direct fit application without jumping through hoops get the perfect stance.

Hub-Centric. No Rings Required.

Every wheel is machined to a 70.6mm center bore; the exact OEM dimension on every S197 from 2005 to 2014. The wheel centers on the hub itself, not the lug hardware. That matters for high-speed balance and long-term durability.

Common Questions

S197 Mustang Wheel FAQ

The S197 GT runs 17x8 or 18x8 from the factory. Aftermarket upgrades most commonly go to 19x10 or 20x10 on a square setup, or 19x10 front with 19x11 rear on a staggered setup. Both configurations clear the standard front brakes without modification. Project 6GR's verified fitments for the S197 GT are published in the fitment tables above.

All 2005-2014 S197 Mustangs — GT, GT500, and Boss 302 — use a 5x114.3 bolt pattern (also expressed as 5x4.5 inches). The center bore is 70.6mm across every trim in the production run. Lug hardware is M12x1.5 with a factory torque spec of 100 ft-lbs.

Yes. The 5x114.3 bolt pattern and 70.6mm center bore are consistent from the S197 through the S550 and into the S650. Project 6GR's fitment specs are the same verified setup across all three generations. A wheel that fits an S197 at the correct offset will fit an S550 and S650 at the same specification.

A 19x11 or 20x11 rear wheel at +50mm offset fits the S197 GT on a staggered setup without spacers or fender work. On a square setup, 19x10 or 20x10 at +35mm runs clean on all four corners. These are Project 6GR's confirmed fitments for the platform, verified against the factory suspension and brake geometry

Yes. The 19x10 at +35mm is Project 6GR's primary recommended fitment for the S197 platform — square or as the front wheel in a staggered setup. It clears the factory GT brakes and the four-piston Brembo front caliper on the Boss 302 without modification.

The GT and GT500 share the same 5x114.3 bolt pattern and 70.6mm center bore. The difference is the factory wheel size — the GT shipped on 17- or 18-inch wheels, while the GT500 used 18x9.5 to 19x9.5 from the factory. On aftermarket fitment, both variants run the same Project 6GR setup: 19x10 +35 front and 19x11 +50 rear, or the equivalent 20-inch pairing.

Yes. The Boss 302 was equipped with four-piston Brembo front calipers as standard equipment. Project 6GR's 19x10 +35mm front wheel clears the Boss 302 Brembo application without spacers or modifications. This clearance is verified and published in the fitment table above.

For performance-focused builds — track days, road courses, high-power GT500 applications — 19-inch wheels are the better choice. The taller sidewall provides more compliance and grip. For street-focused builds where stance and visual proportion are the priority, 20-inch fitment fills the S197 arch with a lower-profile tire and a more aggressive appearance. Both diameters are fully verified for the platform.

Staggered runs a wider rear wheel than the front — 19x10 or 20x10 up front, 19x11 or 20x11 out back — to increase the rear contact patch and improve visual stance. Square runs the same size on all four corners, which enables tire rotation and produces more neutral handling. For S197 owners who track the car, square is the more practical setup. For street and show builds, staggered is the more common choice.

Yes. Spun Forged (flow formed) wheels are significantly stronger than conventional cast wheels due to the pressure-forming process used on the barrel. The material grain structure is compressed and aligned during manufacturing, which increases tensile strength without adding weight. P6GR's Spun Forged lineup is JWL and VIA certified and carries a lifetime structural warranty. For extreme power applications, the Monoblock Forged line is machined from a single 6061-T6 billet and is the appropriate choice.

Yes. The verified offsets on this page are compatible with standard and moderate lowering setups. For builds with aggressive suspension drops, non-standard brake kits, or wide-body configurations, contact the team to confirm clearance for your specific setup before ordering.

The S197-generation GT350 runs a different fitment profile compared to the GT, GT500, and Boss 302. Project 6GR does not currently have a confirmed spun forged fitment for the GT350. The custom monoblock forged line is the correct path — built to exact diameter, width, and offset for that car. Contact the team to start the conversation.
