Chrome is only as good as the steel underneath it, and we plate over the same grade we trust on every nut we sell. 10B21 is a low-carbon boron steel that the fastener industry relies on because that trace of boron raises hardenability, so after heat treatment each nut carries a hard, wear-resistant surface over a tough, ductile core that shrugs off repeated torque.

Cold forging aligns the steel’s grain with the shape of the nut, and that grain flow is what gives a forged fastener the fatigue resistance to hold torque through heat cycles and rough road. We spec 10B21 for the same reason the industry does: enough ductility to form a clean seat and thread without micro-cracks, enough through-hardening to keep that shape under load.

Chrome Plating

Chrome plating builds a bright, hard metallic layer onto the steel through electroplating, and it does two jobs at once. The visible result is the deep mirror shine chrome is known for, the finish that makes a lug nut disappear into a polished wheel face. Underneath that shine, the plated layer seals the steel from moisture and oxygen, adding a corrosion barrier on top of the coating protection built into a properly plated fastener.

Chrome’s hardness is what keeps that shine over time. The surface resists the scuffing and micro-scratching that dull softer finishes, so the nut still throws a clean reflection after seasons of wheel-off cleaning and reinstalls. It’s the finish to choose when the wheel is polished, machined, or bright, and you want the hardware to complete the look rather than interrupt it.

Usually, yes. OEM nuts are cut for your factory wheel's seat design, which often differs from an aftermarket wheel. Match the seat (60° conical here) and thread pitch (M14x1.5) to your wheels.

For street and track use, forged steel holds torque and resists rounding far better than lightweight aluminum, which is why we spec 10B21 steel. Aluminum trims a little weight at the cost of strength.

Choose chrome for polished, machined, or bright wheel faces where you want the hardware to shine with the wheel. Choose black electropaint for matte, gloss black, or bronze wheels where you want the nuts to recede.
