Cars for Cops & Kids ran June 7 at Verdugo Park in Glendale and most of our team was there. We brought the new forged and two piece designs out to put in front of people, since face profile and lip depth are things you have to actually look at from a few feet away before they make sense.
Our shop GT350R sat on forged TEN-R. The R leaves the factory with a wider rear track than a standard S550, so it takes a real staggered setup without needing fender work or a bunch of camber to clear anything. An AMG S 63 ran TEN-R next to it and a C7 S6 ran the same wheel a few spots over, so people could see how the design carries across a heavy sedan, an Audi with fairly flat fenders, and a Mustang, without changing character.
The two piece builds were a G80 M3 and a Race Red S550 GT. That construction is the reason both cars sit correctly instead of close enough. With a separate face and barrel we can move offset and lip depth in small increments, so an owner gets the exact spec for their ride height and tire rather than whatever monoblock offset lands nearest.
Outside our row there were a few cars worth stopping for. Someone brought a built 240Z, there was an E39 M5 on BBS that looked the way an E39 on BBS is supposed to look, and an E46 M3 wearing Hamann wheels, which is a combination you almost never see in person these days.
The event raises money and puts local officers, families, and car people in the same park for an afternoon. Kids climbing on hoods, parents lining up photos, a couple of officers stopping by the tent to ask what separates spun forged from fully forged.
